I WAS absolutely disgusted to read that the garden of Molendinar Family Learning Centre in Blackhill had been vandalised again (Evening Times, June 22).

I'm a senior nursery nurse, working in a nursery in the north of Glasgow, and our garden was also vandalised at the weekend. It is disgusting to think people can be so destructive towards nursery schools who are doing their best to educate children to be respectful to others and to become upstanding members of the community in years to come.

Children absolutely adore being out in the garden for some free time to explore and burn off some energy, even when as young as the babies.

The vandals do not understand the consequences of their actions with money poured into making a nursery garden a safe, secure and welcoming place for children.

They are only interested in the buzz they get from it! Maybe they will begin to think about their actions before they carry-out things like this in the future and begin to understand the consequences - but I doubt it.

US stores would help

FOR Glasgow to improve (Evening Times, Forget the recession . . . city's top for shops , June 23) it needs to attract some of the big American stores to take real dominance.

Having said that, Glasgow's done well considering we don't have Harvey Nicks or Selfridges (yet).

Names don't matter

BILL WILSON MSP wants to reintroduce the old Scots words for turnips, potatoes and blackberries. The SNP want to force supermarkets to rename them tumshies, tatties and brambles.

What a bunch of "neep heids" they all are.

There are more important matters to solve - failing education standards, crime and lack of punishment, rising food prices and rising unemployment to name just a few.

There are obviously MSPs in the Scottish Parliament who are unaware that we are in the middle of a recession.

Bank's tennis racket

I'VE just been reading that the Royal Bank of Scotland has booked a plush 42-guest corporate hospitality suite at Wimbledon for each day of the tournament.

Its arrogance is breathtaking.

In this financial climate, it is an outrage - totally insensitive.

Champagne and strawberries should not be on the agenda for rich clients.

Show was great...

I FELT I must write in and congratulate the teachers, staff, musicians and pupils of St Ambrose school in Coatbridge on the concert called Disco Inferno they put on this week.

What a great night's entertainment they provided.

OK, there was the usual first night nerves but that just added to the enjoyment of the night.

The teachers and staff must have put a lot of unpaid hours into this show and they can be very proud of the end product!

I'm sure we will see some of these youngsters on Britain's Got Talent one day.

Well done to all concerned.

JOHN KERR, Coatbridge

...and well done, Andy

I'M so proud of my workmate Andy Joyce who was fifth in the 10K at the weekend.

Well done! We are proud of you boy.

HOT TOPIC: New village is good news for apprentices

IT'S great to read about the number of jobs this new village will create.

Creating opportunities for apprentices is vital for Glasgow. I just hope it all goes to plan, especially with regard to timescale. We can't change the date of the Games to suit building delays.

Pile of bricks and sticks

ANYONE with any involvement in the building of that unmitigated architectural disaster the Scottish Parliament should be permanently banned from building anything in Scotland again in my view.

Am I alone in finding that ramshackle pile of bricks and sticks a complete embarrassment to this country?

VICTOR MELDREW, Condorrat

Inspiring building

UNMITIGATED architectural disaster or prizewinning architectural design? The Scottish Parliament is a great building. Inspiring, even. Full of light and space and consistency of detail. And I've actually been in it a lot.

Different builders

DESIGNED by the same designers? Let's hope it isn't built by the same builders. Glasgow 2014 games village completed 2018 at a cost of £900m!

Cheap at the price

I WONDER what the Holyrood building would have cost today given the downturn?

WILD WADI, Kirkintilloch

No interference

IN my opinion, the problem with the Scottish Parliament wasn't the architects but the MSPs who tried to project-manage the building despite having no experience in construction at all. As long as they are allowed to build without interference it will go smoothly.

Abomination

LET us hope it isn't as ghastly as the Scottish Parliament building. I agree with other readers that is a complete abomination.

Trams should be next

THIS is a great idea. Now we need a first-class tram system that we can all use and feel proud to have too - and in time for the Games.
