I AGREE with Ian Robertson that there should be a GB football team (Evening Times, October 4).
I AGREE with Ian Robertson that there should be a GB football team (Evening Times, October 4).
We are the United Kingdom, which is England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, and I strongly believe we should have a GB team for all sports.
I am positive if we went ahead with the idea at the 2012 Olympics, it would make Great Britain stronger again.
I also agree Sir Alex Ferguson should manage the team and think David Beckham should be coach.
We could still have our national teams, but they would play against each other in a Home Nations competition, and then three players from each country would form Team GB.
It would be great, and I think we have got to try it out and see how it goes as it would unite us in support of Great Britain and make us politically stronger too.
The people who think it won't work don't realise the importance of having a GB team, or maybe they just don't like football. I will be proud to stand up to sing our national anthem God Save the Queen.
I was born in Scotland, but I am British through and through. Come on, bring on a GB Football Team.

National service call
I THINK letting criminals out because of overcrowding is a disgrace. Why not bring national service back - I am sure it would reduce crime and make more space in prisons. I also think if they use a knife on someone, they intend to kill someone.

Ban TV gambling ads
WITH the increase of flashy gambling websites advertised on television, combined with the credit crunch, it's a wonder anyone can afford to throw their money down the drain on such ruthless and greedy gambling websites.
Surely broadcasting watchdog Ofcom should be taking a stiffer line with such firms, banning their rights to advertise on television.
We already have a ban on cigarette advertising, yet our other two scourges on society - alcohol and gambling - get a seemingly free rein.
Until we cut the exposure people have to these trends and make them see the trap they can fall into, more money, time, and resources will have to be ploughed into helping victims.

Sack GHA chiefs
THE letter by BeeSee about the Glasgow Housing Association (Letters, October 3) makes a good point.
I can understand where they are coming from as I and some of my neighbours have had many issues with this organisation.
But I do not agree with the sack the lot of them' statement.
The ordinary staff and security workers are all very nice and social, but GHA is definitely needing changed as it is no charity.
However, I would certainly get rid of the decision-makers at the top.

HOT TOPIC: Warning over rubbish risk was ignored
WHILE we all agree fly tippers should be hammered, it has to be noted that legislation, mainly from Brussels, has led to a massive increase in dumping.
The EU and the UK government were warned the rules requiring waste to be treated before going to landfill would increase dumping.
Tyre "removal specialists" are billing councils for picking up tyres from skip sites - why? They are getting the "materials" for their lucrative businesses for free.

Ciggie butts are menace
WHEN will pubs have to start clearing up the mess of cigarette butts on the pavements.
There are two pubs in my street and I have observed staff from both establishments coming out with a brush and sweeping the butts into the gutter.
Would it really be that much more effort to sweep them on to a shovel and put them in a bin?

Tyre problem isn't new
THE number of dumped tyres in Cambuslang has been shocking, not for months, but for years!

Taxing time
IF some of the taxpayers didn't dump so much rubbish irresponsibly, the council wouldn't have to ask for more cash.

Area is a disgrace
ENFORCEMENT officers must be scared to go into the South Side. Govanhill is a disgrace, with piles of rubbish along Allison Street.

Street has been ignored
THERE has been swift action about the rubbish in the West End. However nothing has happened over the rubbish, dog fouling and filth in Govanhill. Allison Street is the dirtiest street in Scotland.

Clear up is too late
IT is ridiculous the tyres weren't dealt with after the first dozen. It must have taken hundreds of van or lorry journeys to dump them.

Pride in the city
WHY can't people have pride in the city instead of dumping their rubbish wherever they want. It's time for it to stop!
