No doubt a developer will come in and throw up new flats which will be unaffordable for most Glasgow residents.

Some affordable housing would make a nice change for the city centre.

I'm sick of expensive apartments lying empty and then being turned into short-stay flats for stag and hen parties.

Murphy's law for Jim

WHAT planet is Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy living on?

He's saying that the SNP's Finance Secretary John Swinney would make a great leader of the Nats.

Where has Mr Murphy been? Mr Swinney has been the leader and we know what happened then!

Central attraction

IT'S good to see something being preserved rather than being knocked down and something else being built.

I'm referring to the Central Hotel in Glasgow (Evening Times, June 25).

Not home and dry yet

LAST week, after working all day in the rain, all I asked for was a shower back at the city cleansing department's base and dry clothes for the next day.

It is hard work at the best of times, without it bucketing on you all day.

Unfortunately, for the last 11 months our dryer in work has not been working and all attempts I have made to rectify this with the so-called health and safety section has fallen on deaf ears.

I'm hoping this letter can help in getting the hard-working but wet lads of the Bridgeton depot a new dryer!

Copper acts on a lead

WHAT a great picture that was - the latest recruit to Strathclyde Police - in Friday's Evening Times.

Copper, the super-sleuth puppy, looked so cute in the picture.

It will be great if the training is a success for Copper. I'm sure he will be top dog in his new role for the force!

Taking a pounding

I'M pleased to read that a new shop opening in Sauchiehall Street isn't going to be a pound shop' for a change (Evening Times, 50 Jobs Up For Grabs At Store, June 26).

A new Argos store is badly needed at this end of town to save the trek down to the Stockwell Street outlet.

It would be great if more big- name retailers could be attracted to open up in this area of the city centre.

Road repairs a must

THE state of roads in Glasgow city centre is a growing concern.

The amount of potholes and badly repaired roads, around the Charing Cross area for example, make it a nightmare to drive around the city.

It must cost motorists a fortune every year in repairs to burst tyres.

It's about time something was done.

Care centre boost

IT'S great news that moves for a new Maggie's Centre have moved a step closer with a planning application having been handed in (Evening Times, June 26).

A new centre will made a great difference to so many families and patients.

HOT TOPIC: Jackson's 1982 album is still a Thriller

SUCH a shame his life ended in such a way. We can all name at least three tracks off his 1982 Thriller album, can we name three tracks of his last studio album, Invincible?

He had past his sell by date as a musician 20 years ago. But people should think about his family and the kids he's left behind, rather than his music.

The price of fame

POOR old Jacko. He was a sad sorry figure towards the end. What price fame?

STEWIE GRIFFIN, Glasgow

He was a one off

I WAS more of a punk fan however I loved all the Motown stuff.

All credit to Michael Jackson, the music business isn't creating folk like him anymore.

JIM, Glasgow

He's in good company

SUCH sad news. a wee boy who grew up without a childhood to become the king of pop. Imagine the jam session in heaven - Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Elvis, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, Freddie Mercury, Brian Jones and Michael Jackson. RIP

ANNIE221, Glasgow

I feel for his family

I WAS no fan of Jackson, but my sympathies go to his family.

CELTIC4, US

Sad end to a public life

WHAT a sad life Michael Jackson had, and dead at just 50.

MULROSS, Glasgow

His music will survive

WHATEVER people say about Michael Jackson's private life, his music can't be criticised. It will always be remembered all over the world. What a sad loss.

ROBBIE, Glasgow

Hyped, even in death

I CAN'T believe the hype over Michael Jackson's death. It's sad he died so young but he lost my respect years ago.

STEVO, East End

Shocked and saddened

I DOUBT we will ever see another singer become so famous world-wide and have so many instantly recognisable songs as Michael Jackson. I have been left shocked and saddened by his sudden death.
