ISN'T it amazing that a company like Royal Mail, who are crying over the fact that they can't afford to provide a decent postal service because of lazy postal workers, can still reward managers with very hefty bonuses?

From line managers upwards, the bonus pay outs start at £4000. This is paid out of the Quality of Service targets, and we all know how they were achieved.
And the posties, who according to our boss are underworked and over-paid, what did they get? That's right, a big fat zero.

Titan is just terrific
I WAS delighted to read of the cash awarded to the Titan crane education programme (£50k award to tell story of the Titan, July 2).
I visited last Monday and the views were amazing.
The whole visit was a great experience and the film about shipbuilding and all the information supplied was very well presented.
The whole experience was an ideal afternoon out for all generations.

Shame on our MSPs
MORE than a third of MSPs snubbed the Queen's visit to the Scottish Parliament for its 10th anniversary.
I can understand that some of them might have had previous commitments, but come on, this was a special occasion, a one off.
It was a celebration of Scotland and nothing to do with the Queen or the royal family.
The place should have been filled to the rafters.
Shame on them. They missed a wonderful day.

Not such a tonic
Hopefully the Benedictine monks of Buckfast Abbey in Devon are aware of the sad and all too common consequences of their "tonic" wine.
I hope as they turn to their prayers this evening the good monks can contemplate more seriously than they have in the past the damaging impact their Buckfast concoction has on many UK communities.
Then again, on the basis of previous responses from them when similar evidence has been presented, perhaps this is too much to expect. Amen.

King's is a fairy cake'
Let's hope that the makeover at Glasgow's King's Theatre isn't too radical (July 3).
As Elaine C Smith said in a very memorable sketch from one of her shows in the King's (portraying "Mary Doll" from Rab C) "It's like being inside a fairy cake".

No pressure Andy
I REALLY feel sorry for Andy Murray. The expectations on him this year were simply ridiculous.
Yes, he is one of the best players in the world, but, given that grass is hardly his favourite surface he was always going to find it tough.
Andy did magnificently just to reach the semi final.
Then again, I'm a fanatical Scot so as far as I'm concerned Andy is an odds-on certainty to triumph in the US Open later in the year and, after that all four Grand Slams in 2010.

Whisky name is ours
SCOTCH whisky, by law, can only be made in Scotland. Someone should remind the Diageo bosses of that before they decide to do a runner.
Leave Scotland - lose the right to use the whisky name.

Rickety buses must be taken off roads
SURELY there comes a point when enough is enough.
Old rickety buses, spewing pollution into the atmosphere and causing mayhem - what does a company have to do to lose its licence?

Clamp down on operators
IT'S high time a serious curb is made on these private operators who duplicate other services, clogging up the city's roads with empty buses carrying fresh air and slowing everyone else down.

Drivers listen to music
THIS incident doesn't surprise me. Some of these small operators have ancient buses and half their drivers are listening to music on headphones which can't be safe.
And some buses have shocking suspension - real boneshakers.

Re-regulate services
THE entire bus service operation should be re-regulated so as to ban dangerous bus operators from our streets.
It's not the first time that I've alighted from a rattling heap of a wreck of a bus in Paisley Road West, in Clydebank and in Kilsyth fearing for my safety.

Joan made bad decision
JOAN AITKEN needs to be sacked. The transport commissioner says, "oh, it's ok keep those wonky wheel collapsing buses running!"
HM Vehicle Inspectorate in Scotland needs to go and investigate all the major bus companies in Scotland.
Anyone who's driven a company vehicle will know that there's a certain amount of paperwork involved.
It looks to me that VOSA is just another toothless tiger.

Livid at red tape
I AM livid at this. I recently applied for an operator's licence and it is meant to take nine weeks.
My application took 20 because of all the red tape and nonsense, yet a bus company is allowed to keep its licence after the wheels fell off its bus!
