AN ELECTRONIC music festival has been cancelled due to "lower-than-expected sales".
Organisers of Riverside Festival, which was due to take place on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26, have revealed on social media they have made the "difficult decision" to cancel the event as they were not able to "deliver the festival to our usual high standards".
As well as lower-than-expected ticket sales, they said they also decided to scrap the festival, which takes place in the grounds of the Riverside Museum, due to increased costs and an "over-saturated event landscape".
Full refunds will be available to those who bought tickets within five working days.
A post on Facebook read: "It is with deep regret and heavy hearts that we’ve taken the extremely difficult decision to cancel this year’s Riverside Festival.
"With lower-than-expected sales and increased infrastructure, staff, transport, and artist costs, all in an over-saturated event landscape, we could not deliver the festival to our usual high standards.
"We understand how upsetting this is for those of you who have bought tickets, and we sincerely thank you all for your continued support.
"Full refunds will be available from Skiddle & Resident Advisor within five working days."
However, organisers also revealed "two massive shows" will be taking place at the museum on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1.
The Riverside Festival line-up was set to include Green Velvet, LF SYSTEM, Slam, LA LA, Charlie Sparks, FRANCK, Reinier Zonneveld, TSHA, Eliza Rose, Grace Dahl B2B Stephanie Sykes, Ben Klock and Dax J.
Last year, it celebrated its 10th anniversary.
