Giovanni van Bronckhorst has revealed the soon-to-be Champions League finalist whom he tried to bring to Rangers.

The Dutchman insists he attempted to sign Ian Maatsen for the Ibrox club during his time as manager.

However, he failed, as the wing-back opted to go to Burnley to aid their eventual promotion to the Premier League.

The Netherlands Under-21 international last night helped to secure Borussia Dortmund's slot in this season's Champions League final.

The Bundesliga side beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 over both semi-final legs to reach the showpiece event at Wembley on Saturday, June 1.

He's currently on loan from parent club Chelsea, where he's not had much of a chance to shine in the first team.

The 22-year-old's career could've been very different though, had he chosen a loan to Rangers instead of Burnley for the 2022/23 season.

The ex-Gers boss told RTL7: “He was still on my list for Rangers. I was very charmed by him to bring him to Rangers.

"That didn't work out in the end, but he is a player with a lot of drive, who always looks forward and is also becoming stronger defensively. He scores goals and that is certainly very nice to watch."

Meanwhile, the agent of Macarthur youngster Raphael Borges Rodrigues has revealed that he will move to Europe soon.

Raphael has been heavily linked with a move to Rangers this summer and the 20-year-old could now have played his last game for Macarthur with the A-League season over.

Former Rangers defender Craig Moore has praised the winger and believes he could be a strong talent and that's something Fahid Ben Khalfallah agrees with.

He scored six goals and set up another two during his 33 appearances in the A-League this season and is believed to be attracting plenty of interest from teams across the UK and Europe.
