One Direction and Dame Helen Mirren are just two of the stars who will make this year's BBC Children in Need the biggest ever.

The global pop sensations and the 70-year-old Oscar-winner continue their association with the fundraiser, which helps disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

Celebrities giving their time to tell viewers about a number of inspiring projects funded from the appeal night include: former Doctor Who David Tennant, Sherlock actor Martin Freeman and music star Ellie Goulding.

Also lending their support will be JLS singer turned presenter Marvin Humes and TV star Reggie Yates.

On appeal night, Goulding will perform her new single and there will be an exclusive Star Wars sketch with C3PO and R2-D2 alongside Star Wars actor Warwick Davis.

Pop star Jess Glynne will sing Take Me Home, the official BBC Children in Need single.

Other highlights include a one-off special in which comedian Harry Hill will take viewers on a whirlwind tour of the history of TV in his own inimitable style.

There will also be a Call the Midwife Strictly special and performances from music stars Rod Stewart, Selena Gomez, Years and Years as well as Anastacia.

As ever, Sir Terry Wogan will be the face of the broadcast. Co-presenters will include Tess Daly, Fearne Cotton, Nick Grimshaw and Rochelle Humes.

BBC Children in Need supports 2,500 projects. In the last year alone, the charity has helped nearly half a million disadvantaged children.

Sir Terry, BBC Children In Need life president, said: "It was my privilege to present the very first BBC Children In Need in 1980 and it remains a privilege and a pleasure to reflect the extraordinary generosity of the British public.

"For that's what BBC Children In Need has truly become: the People's Charity.

"Their pounds, shillings and pence, given so generously, have amounted to an extraordinary total so far of £790 million.

"You can imagine the difference that has made to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

"The past couple of years have produced record-breaking totals on the big night, and it's fingers crossed for another magnificent response from the British public.

"Tess, Fearne, Nick, Rochelle and I are looking forward to a mind-blowing evening of great entertainment on behalf of a great charity."

:: Children In Need airs on Friday November 13 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
