Today is World Outlander Day and hunky Scots actor Sam Heughan has taken to Twitter to celebrate with fans of the show.

The actor said: " #WorldOutlanderDay How many crew does it take to remove a French boot... #winnerTakesTheBeard" as he sparked celebrations from online fans.

The actor quickly receieved a response from fans.

The second season of the smash hit time travel show aired in April after an incredibly successful season one was nominated for a Golden Globe and Emmy award.

Sam, who studied at Glasgow’s then Royal Scottish Academy of Music previously said of the show: “I think we’re just very lucky that it struck a chord with people and it certainly seems to have done very well.

“This show has been terrific, not just for Glasgow or Cumbernauld, but the whole of Scotland. The film industry is certainly very happy we’re here. It’s been regarded as a great triumph for Scotland and the UK.”
