Tame Impala pulled the curtain down on day two of Coachella.

The Australian instrumentalist Kevin Parker – who is joined on stage by members of the psychedelic rock band Pond for live performances – had top billing on the second day of the southern California music festival.

He treated fans to an eclectic set, performing hits such as Let It Happen, Apocalypse Dreams and Borderline.

More than 100,000 music lovers – including A-list celebrities such as Selena Gomez and Kendall Jenner – had descended on the city of Indio for weekend one of Coachella, with Ariana Grande to headline on Sunday.

Before Saturday’s headline act, American teenager Billie Eilish – the 17-year-old who became the first artist born in the 2000s to achieve a number one album in the US – arrived about 30 minutes late for her set.

However, she soon made it up to fans with live versions of songs from her record-breaking album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

And the star echoed the sentiments of Friday night’s headliner Childish Gambino, who talked about fans viewing concerts through their mobile phones rather than watching them.

She said: “We’re always looking forward to the next thing. We’re not thinking about what’s happening right now and this’s happening right now. And this is crazy.

“This is the only chance we get to be in the moment, so why don’t we be?”

Away from the main stage, US rock band Weezer delighted fans with covers of well-known songs as well as performances of their own beloved classics.

The group brought on British duo Tears For Fears for a cover version of Everybody Wants To Rule The World as well as Chilli, from the American girl group TLC, for a cover of No Scrubs.

Weezer also performed a selection of their own hits, including Beverly Hills, Buddy Holly and Island In The Sun.

The rapper Kid Cudi performed after Tame Impala, taking to the Sahara stage at five minutes to midnight local time.

British actor Idris Elba performed a DJ set while Canadian music producer Murda Beatz also performed on Saturday.
