A seven-year-old Possil boy thinks he may be Scotland’s biggest Ariana Grande fan.

Superfan Ronan Riley, loves the 7 Rings singer so much he performed as her in his school’s talent show. And his vocal prowess helped his dream come true this week when he watched Ariana, 26, take to the stage at the SSE Hydro despite a ticket scare when the hotly-anticipated gig sold out in seconds.

Ronan’s mum Natalie, who watched the show with him from the Hydro’s exclusive Golden Circle, explained: “For the first half of the concert he just stared at her, mouth open.

“We got the tickets some months before from Ronan’s uncle after it was initially sold out. His uncle does karaoke and heard Ronan singing some of her songs, so when I put out a request for tickets he wanted to help us out. We couldn’t tell him that he was going before because we knew that he would be so excited it would be almost unbearable.

“The night before me and his dad sat him down and asked him ‘who is your favourite singer’ and ‘where is she playing tomorrow night’ – he twigged almost right away. The night before he was so excited that he was almost hysterical.”

Ronan first fell in love with Ariana about two years ago, when he started watching her music videos on his iPad.

“I noticed that her voice was becoming more familiar in the house,” said Natalie. “He doesn’t just sing along to her songs now, he actually mimics her. He wants to be her.

“He’s asked me if I can get him hair extensions and fake nails, but I’ve said no because he’s only seven. He puts kirbies on his fingers to make the clicking sound of fake nails.”

Natalie says that the best gift Ronan has received was a signed picture and a jumper like Ariana’s from his sisters.

“He wears it all the time” says Natalie. “He pulls the sleeves down and wears it oversized, just like Ariana. I reckon he thinks it’s actually come from her.”

Being such a mega-fan, Ronan’s dreams really did come true when he got to see Ariana singing live at Tuesday’s gig. From the moment that Ronan arrived at the SSE Hydro, Natalie said that he was walking on air.

“Ronan was asking people, ‘What’s your favourite song’? He actually asked a man who said that he didn’t have a favourite song because he didn’t know her songs that well, and Ronan asked him why he was there – it was quite funny. It was a late night for him as he had school, but he didn’t want to go home.”

Is this the making of Ronan’s love for Ariana, or is he more a fan than ever?

“He’s only seven, so I think having that wee bit of fairy-tale and magic the way that he thinks the hoodie came from her is okay.

“It’s harmless – he just loves her the way we all loved popstars when we were wee.”
