FAMOUS London restaurant The Ivy has been granted planning permission to take over a bank in Glasgow City Centre.

The celebrity hang out, whose client list has includes the likes of Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Madonna, and David and Victoria Beckham, were told by Glasgow City Council this week that the plans had been approved subject to conditions.

The Ivy will be located on Buchanan Street in a building currently occupied by the Nationwide Building Society.

We previously revealed that the move would create 150 new jobs.

The building society will move to new premises in nearby Argyle Street.

The Ivy also applied for extended opening hours under the planning application and will trade until 1am between Thursday and Sunday.

The original restaurant in Covent Garden, which opened a century ago, was the haunt of household names like Laurence Olivier, Vivien Leigh, Marlene Dietrich, John Gielgud and Noel Coward.

The Ivy is a name synonymous with the world of glitz and glamour and although not part of the same group, an Ivy also operates out of Los Angeles.
