A popular city centre Malaysian restaurant has unexpectedly closed its doors for good.

A sign posted in the window of Rumours Kopitiam on Bath Street featured an apology to customers who flocked to the eatery to sample the traditional menu of curries and hotpots.

The restaurant was considered one of the city's best kept secrets, with hundreds of diners loving the no-frills approach and plentiful portions.

A statement posted online read: "Sorry our Restaurant is now closed permanently from the 27th October 2019."

"Thank you for your business and support over the years."
