If you want a detox for your skin and don't mind looking like Shrek for fifteen minutes, then this might be the mask for you.

On a recent visit to Boots for new make-up, I visited the Bare Minerals counter. This isn't a brand I have used before and Moya the assistant was great at talking me through the products, their ingredients and the right items based on what I was looking for.

What surprised me most about the range was how affordable it was in comparison to the other beauty counters.  They also offer a skincare range and along with my purchases I received a small sample of the Dirty Detox Mask.

The product

"To get super clean, you've got to get a little dirty"

Bare Minerals Dirty Detox Skin Glowing and Refining Mud Mask is enriched with charcoal and four mineral-rich clays, the texture is thick, clay-like and dark green in colour.

Individuals who are concerned about chemicals in products and animal cruelty will be happy to know that the mask is paraben-free, phthalate free, formaldehyde-free, gluten-free, vegan and cruelty-free.

A full list of ingredients can be found here

Who should try this mask?

This mask would be good for individuals who suffer from congested and dull skin. People who like pampering at home will enjoy this mask and its luxury spa quality. If you look for organic and vegan-friendly products, then this one ticks all the boxes.

My experience

I really enjoyed using this mask and can see it as a firm favourite in my weekly pamper session.

Using a brush for application, I put on a thick layer, the whole mask dried turning to a light green. The thick texture, subtle smell of bergamot and eucalyptus really gives this product a luxury spa feeling. The mask washes off easily with warm water. It is probably best to use a muslin cloth or dark face towel due to the colour.

The results are immediate, my face appeared visibly brighter, felt cleansed and super soft. I have used this mask three times and although the mud dries, it doesn't dry out my skin, I was pleasantly surprised at how moisturised it felt afterwards.

I will definitely be buying the full tub.
