AT long last, spring has finally decided to put in an appearance, so it’s time to ditch the thick woolly jumpers and knee-length boots and give your wardrobe a lighter feel.

When the season changes, it’s good to create a capsule wardrobe - a few stylish key pieces that can be mixed and matched with your existing pieces to create fresh new looks that can be easily co-ordinated.

With this in mind, we asked Evening Times Style Doctor Numba Pinkerton to give us her top 10 capsule pieces for spring. We’ll show you five this week and five next week, so stay tuned and happy shopping!

Trench Coat

Instead of going for the classic camel trench coat, why not mix it up with a navy or another nude shade? It’s just as versatile and adds a touch of class to any colour scheme you go for.

Pale Pink Top

Nothing says feminine in spring more than a touch of pink. A pink top adds charm to basic separates and can paired with jeans and trainers or skirt and heels for a great look. Throw it on with a statement necklace and you’re good to go!

Boyfriend jeans

The Boyfriend style offers a cool alternative to the usual skinny jeans. A medium to dark stretchy blue pair is flattering on most figures and goes with pretty much any colour. Dress them up with heels and a trench coat or dress down with simple loafers.

Slip on shoes

If you have a busy lifestyle and need comfortable but stylish shoes, look no further than slip on plimsolls. Slip-ons are usually worn without socks. However, they can also be worn with low-cut socks that end in the shoe. The line separating casual and formal shoes is not as strict as it used to be, so you can wear them just about anywhere!

A-line skirt

A-line skirts are so versatile, offering a laidback, classy feel that can easily be dressed up with a blouse and heels, or down your Breton tee and plimsolls.
