WHEN the season changes, it’s good to create a capsule wardrobe - a few stylish key pieces that can be mixed and matched with your existing pieces to create fresh new looks that can be easily co-ordinated.
We asked Evening Times Style Doctor Numba Pinkerton to give us her top 10 capsule pieces for spring, and following last week’s first five key choices, we’re adding her final five today.
“It’s all about keeping an open mind and buying pieces that will work well with the rest of your wardrobe,” says Numba, a professional stylist and former model.
Breton Tee
The classic Breton top is a must for any wardrobe, a piece that seamlessly transitions from workday chic to rock concert grunge and weekend moseying. Opt for dark navy lines on white, which gives a fresh, light feel. Longer sleeves are always more versatile.
Colourful Trousers
Who said a capsule wardrobe has to be boring? Coloured Chinos (or tailored trousers) offer exactly that – a splash of colour to match our spring mood and spice up your wardrobe. High-rise waists flatter the hips and slim tailoring will go with both tight and slouchy tops, which can be worn tucked in or out.
Colourful Scarf
The secret to great style is accessorising. The right accessories can lift any outfit adding colour, style and sophistication. Choose a patterned, colourful scarf for versatility.
Sunglasses
Let’s hope spring means more sunshine! But remember, when it comes to sunglasses the ‘one size fits all’ rule does not apply. Experiment with various styles until you find something that flatters both your colouring and face shape.
Dark brown Sandals
Like navy and black, dark brown is another great neutral to incorporate in your spring wardrobe. Comfortable sandals in dark brown are a versatile and stylish option for warmer days. You can wear them with your skirt, boyfriend jeans or dress.
