A Glasgow bar is undergoing a major £500k country themed transformation.

Maggie May’s is becoming an authentic saloon with punters even getting the chance to ride a Buckin' Bronco bull for prizes.

It comes as the iconic late night spot rebrands to become Maggie’s Rock ‘n’ Rodeo to host country themed Honky Tonks every week.

Bosses have promised the bar will be the “ultimate feel-good place for big groups, stags, and hens” after being inspired by Nashville’s finest dive bars.

There will also be a new Americana inspired menu loaded with buffalo wings, burgers, brisket and pizza slices.

Loyal customers can still expect live bands every night, live sport on screen, and late night hours till 3am.

The bar will remain open as work gets underway with customers urged to book tables to avoid disappointment.

There is no official date yet, but staff told the Glasgow Times to expect the refurbishment to be completed "soon".

This means country-themed Christmas nights at Maggie’s will be available to book this year.

Owner Oli Norman said: “We’re taking Maggie’s to the next level and making it the ultimate feel-good place for big groups, stags, hens and anyone wanting to party.

“Maggie’s is an institution and is and will always be the home of live music and sport. We’re staying true to those roots but adding a country twist.

“We’ve all ended up three sheets to the wind in Maggie’s at some point – now we’re going to do it with our cowboy hats on.”

The bar can cater up to 200 cowboys and cowgirls in The Hoedown, or hire the Bullpit for groups of up to 40.

More information and first looks at Maggie’s Rock and Rodeo will be landing soon.
