Glasgow's no stranger to vegan restaurants, counting Stereo, Mono and the 78 among its meat-free arsenal.

And it seems there's no slowing down the trend of choosing meat- and cruelty-free eating, as its been announced that the city will welcome Europe's biggest vegan festival in December hosted at the SECC.

Vegfest will take place December 5 and 6 2015, and will be preceded by a brand-new Glasgow-based venture The Only Way is Ethics comprising a number of ethical, fairtrade, organic and vegan enterprises in the region.

This joint venture is a result of months of planning and the Vegfest organisers are thrilled to be able to announce an event of this scale.

The Vegfest organisers added, "We're beyond elated to be given the opportunity to bring our vegan festival and hence the benefits of healthy eating and vegan lifestyles to Glasgow this year. We're also privileged to be invited to organise a show at a venue as prestigious and high-profile as the SECC and we're very excited at the prospect of making this show a huge success."

Vegfest Scotland organisers added, ''Vegfest Scotland is all about going vegan. It's not about eating less meat, or choosing eggs over fish, or anything like that. It's about going vegan, pure and simple. It's a single issue campaign. Go Vegan. For the planet, for the animals, for your health, and for sustainable global food production. And it's so easy. Vegfest Scotland will demonstrate just how easy it is to go vegan and stay vegan.''

The inaugural Vegfest Scotland includes a number of exciting features to get healthy eating and vegan activism high on the agenda for many.

They include a health summit on the Saturday, an activists' summit on the Sunday, and dozens of talks on nutrition, health, lifestyle and campaigns, on top of in-house Levy's Restaurant serving an all-vegan menu. Also on-site 12 other specialist caterers and around 140 stalls will feature, plus vegan information display areas, vegan cookery demos, kids cookery classes, family entertainment, live music and comedy.

The show website will be live for bookings from early May 2015.

Admission to Vegfest Scotland is by advance tickets as well as payment on the gate. Advance tickets are £5 for the day and £8 for the whole weekend. Tickets will go on sale from August 2015. Tickets on the gate are £8 for adults and £4 for claimants. Kids under 16 can enter for free.
