Scotland's newest judge today slammed the never- ending culture of gang violence in Easterhouse.
Lord Matthews sentenced a teenage knife killer to eight years and told him: "When I started at the Bar I was involved in cases like this. They are still going on 30 years later. It is thoroughly depressing."
Before Lord Matthews at the High Court in Glasgow was Paul Spence, 18, of Easterhouse.
He had been found guilty at an earlier trial of the culpable homicide of a man who was trying to break up a gang fight.
John Purcell, of Millennium Gardens, Easterhouse, was attacked last September 23 in Easterhouse Road as he walked home.
He died in Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
The court heard there was a clash between two gangs, the Aggro and the Den Toi.
As he tried to disperse them, Mr Purcell was stabbed. The knife went through his arm into his chest and pierced his heart.
Lord Matthews told Spence: "You have your while life ahead of you. John Purcell no longer has a life ahead of him because of what you did."
