The funeral of boxer John "Cowboy" McCormack, who won an Olympic bronze medal, is to be held today in Paisley.

Mr McCormack, originally from Maryhill, won bronze in the light-heavyweight class at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956.

He also won the British Amateur Boxing ­Association title in London the same year and the British light-heavyweight title in 1959.

He retired from boxing in 1976 and died aged 79 after having suffered from Alzheimer's Disease.

Mr McCormack is survived by wife Margarat and children Kim and Mark. His funeral will be held at St Charles RC Church in Paisley at 3pm today.
