A weekly Q and A session

Q. When will a 'Games time' public transport timetable be available?

A: Transport operators are releasing timetables now. Scotrail has announced that they will operate with additional trains and carriages and extended hours for Games time.

The timetable was published on their website on Thursday June 12. The Subway has also announced that it will be running a peak time service throughout the full period of the Games.

This will mean a Subway train every four minutes. The Subway will also extend its opening hours on the two weekends of the Games, operating between 6am and around 1am. First Bus announced their summer timetable on the June 23. For more information on these, you can go to their respective websites. However, all new timetable information is captured in the Traveline Scotland journey planner available at tlscot.com/planner. To download the mobile app go to tlscot.com/app.

Q. I don't have tickets for any Games events - should I stay at home?

A: No! We want everyone to get involved in the Games and there are several ways you can join in. Big screens will be playing sport live around the city at Live Zones as part of Festival 2014.

For more information on all the events happening around the city, visit glasgow2014.com/festival2014.

There are also free non-ticketed events where you can watch word class athletes compete in the Marathon, Triathlon, Mountain Biking, Cycling Time Trial and Cycling Road Race. So come along with family and friends to cheer them on!

We just urge you to plan your travel ahead of time so you can get there and enjoy all the action. For your day-to-day travel, Glasgow will be busier, so check out the travel advice on GetReadyGlasgow.com to see how your journeys might be affected and plan ahead. You might find that making some small changes to your travel will help you get around easier during the Games.

Q. How can I plan ahead for my Games travel?

A: There is more information available on travel during the Games at GetReadyGlasgow.com, or follow us on Twitter for travel updates, advice and information @GamesTravel2014. Some key tips would be to avoid travelling to key venue stations if you are not going to an event, considering walking or cycling all or part of your journey, car sharing to help keep the traffic flowing, re-timing your journey to earlier or later to avoid the crowds and even consider if you need to travel during your work day - could you teleconference instead of meeting face to face? These small changes can help you and everybody else to get around easier during the Games.

Q. What road changes are going to be in place during the Games?

A: The roads are expected to be much busier during the Games as there will be road restrictions and closures in place around venues and when the road events are on.

To ensure you don't get caught out by the changes, make sure you check out the maps available on GetReadyGlasgow.com and plan your journey with these changes in mind. Consider all your travel options including leaving the car at home and walking or cycling instead, taking public transport at less busy times or changing your route.
