POLICE are warning pensioners to be on their guard after bogus callers targeted two elderly women.

An 84-year-old woman was robbed of a three-figure sum of cash by a crook at her home in Hillview Road, Elderslie.

It happened between 6pm and 9pm on Tuesday.

The suspect was last seen running off in the direction of Lomond Gardens, where he was joined by a second man.

Hours earlier, two men posing as council workers arrived at the home of an 85-year-old woman in Meadowside Avenue.

One man distracted the lady, while the other man entered the house and stole a three-figure sum of money.

Detective Sergeant Craig Riddell said: "These men have no conscience, targeting elderly vulnerable people is a despicable act and it’s imperative we trace the men who have stolen from members of our community.

"Rest assured we will do all we can to find them and arrest them.

"I would appeal to anyone in the Elderslie area to think about whether they may have seen these two men, or if they know of anyone else in the area, these men may have targeted to get in touch with us."

Both suspects are described as white, around 5ft 4in tall and their 20s.

One had short, fair hair and was wearing a grey jumper with a cream stripe on it.

The other was wearing a grey jumper with a yellow stripe on it.
