Train services between Glasgow and Clydebank stations, Yoker, Garscadden, Scotstounhill and Jordanhill will be halved when a major station partially closes for 20 weeks from next month.

The Clydebank Post reports that Queen Street Tunnel will be closed from March 20 until August 8 while £60m repairs are carried out and trains which normally use Glasgow Queen Street High Level will be diverted to the low level station.

The changes have a knock-on impact on services in the west of the city and out to Clydebank as services will reduce from four to two trains per hour in both directions.

Two services which normally run to/from Dalmuir each hour via Glasgow Central Low Level will now start and finish at Anderston.

Customers who use Clydebank, Yoker, Garscadden, Scotstounhill and Jordanhill stations will experience a reduced service from four to two trains each hour.

Services from Anniesland to Glasgow via Maryhill will be cut to an hourly service from the current two trains per hour and on Sunday the service will start and finish from Ashfield, one stop away from Queen Street Station.

Passengers on the Anniesland services are advised to check if buses offer a quicker journey.

ScotRail also advised customers to be prepared for queues at Queen Street Station during the works and to set off earlier for journeys.

The £60m project will renew nearly 2km of ageing track through Queen Street tunnel and enable faster, longer, greener trains to operate on Scotland’s rail network from autumn 2017.

A ScotRail Alliance spokeswoman said: “This will mean more seats, shorter journey times and less impact on our environment.   The long term benefits will be considerable, not just for our railway, but also for the country.

“Customers should check their train times in advance using the ScotRail app or the ‘buy tickets’ section on our website. They should also check the final destination, as this may be different from the train they normally catch."
