A man has been hit by a train on the line near Paisley.
Scotrail say the incident happened at around 8am this morning between Paisley Gilmour Street and Kilwinning.
Our sister title the Gazette reports that the incident happened at Milliken Park train station in Johnstone.
It is not yet known the extent of their injuries.
Train services on the line are facing "severe" disruption, says the rail operator.
This is expected to continue until 10am.
A statement on the Scotrail website reads: "Due to a person being hit by a train between Paisley Gilmour Street and Kilwinning: Train services between Ayr and Glasgow Central may be cancelled, delayed or terminated at and started back from Kilwinning.
"Please be advised services between Ayr and Glasgow Central will run between Ayr and Kilwinning only. Replacement road transport has been requested to operate between Kilwinning and Paisley Gilmour Street, but this has not yet been confirmed.
"We apologise for the delay to your journey today."
