FOUR vehicles were damaged and two people ended up in hospital after youths targeted cars on a busy motorway.

The group, thought to be between 14 and 17-years-old, began throwing bricks and glass bottles at cars coming off a slip road in Bargeddie at around 8.10pm on Saturday, May 21.

The youths were standing on a grassy verge looking down onto the slip road at Junction 2 on the M73 southbound.

Four vehicles coming off the slip road on the Bargeddie side of the motorway were damaged.

A 54-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman were injured and went to Monklands Hospital for treatment before being released.

Detective Sergeant Alan MacDonald, from Airdrie CID, said: “This type of behaviour is extremely dangerous and could have resulted in a fatality due to the mindless action of those responsible.

“It would have still been daylight around the time of the incident and I would appeal to any drivers or members of the public who saw what happened to get in touch.”

The first youth is described as male and wearing a dark hooded top with a yellow hood.

The second youth is described as male, with ginger hair and wearing jogging bottoms.

The third youth is described as male and wearing a white top with a large logo on the chest.

The fourth youth is described as male and wearing a grey top and grey jogging bottoms.
