AN indoor soccer centre with a children’s party room is being planned for the East End.

Leisure company 5z wants to create 10, five-a-side pitches and one large arena or pitch for multi-purpose use, changing rooms and a cafe at Glasgow Business Park at Springfield Parkway in Ballieston.

The firm has extensive experience in the leisure market having developed and operated facilities in the Edinburgh area for 40 years.

A report to city planners says 5z is a company dedicated to both the improvement and development of indoor football.

Its goal is to create an arena where children, young people and adults are all happy to take part in sporting activities.

The report says: “It is hoped that through the use of the facility, members’ enjoyment and appreciation of sports, fitness and for life will be enhanced.”

Company bosses believe football played on the right surface is the best way to bring maximum enjoyment to all ages and abilities in a safe and healthy environment, protected from the harsh Scottish weather.

The report says: “5z views sport and fitness as being an integral part of any thriving community which aligns with the city council’s economic strategy which identifies raising health as one of the key objectives to increasing the city’s productivity.

“It is also the operator’s intention to make the facility available to schools, sports and community organisations during off-peak times.

“5z will work with the council, SFA, Youth Football Scotland and other local organisations to ensure the facility can maximise community use and benefits.

“This proposal seeks permission for a leisure/sports use, which will provide much needed facilities that will improve economic activity and the perception of the area, enhancing its attraction and sustainability.

“In particular, the location lacks any type of cafe that nearby businesses could use. It is expected the soccer centre could fulfil that role during normal daytime operating hours which would also be a benefit to the existing and future working population.”

The leisure firm is asking the city council to approve planning permission in principle for the new soccer centre,

Its report says: “This would allow the development of a site that has lain vacant for 20 years contributing nothing to the economic sustainability of Glasgow or Glasgow Business Park.

“Extensive research seeks to ensure the proposed building structure enables considerable health benefits for all athletes, sports participants, employees and visitors who use the sports facility.”
