A BODY discovered in a wooded area near to Old Kilpatrick has been identified as missing teenager Scott Diver.

Police say the 16-year-old’s body was discovered on Thursday, November 3 at around 1pm.

He had been missing from his hometown of Clydebank since September 17.

His death is not being treated a suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

The discovery comes after a public appeal to find him which included the launch of a Find Scott Diver Facebook page.

A statement from the teenager's family, which was published on the page, said: "Sadly today we have received the news we've been dreading, wee Scott has been found and heartbreakingly he's no longer with us.

"We thank everybody for their support and help over the last seven weeks. 

"This page has been a big help for us in the search for Scott but for us as family to be able to grieve properly we need to take time away and after tonight we'll close the page, thank you again from the Diver family."

Scott, who is originally from the Isle of Man, was last seen leaving his home in Clydebank's Second Avenue at around 2.45pm on Saturday, September 17.

He was thereafter captured on CCTV walking through Dalmuir Park, in the direction of the park entrance at Mountblow Road at around 2.55pm on the day he went missing.

His heartbroken family - including dad Scott and aunt Sharyn McHugh - made an appeal for the 16-year-old to come home.

His dad pleaded: "Scotty, we love and miss you and want you home."

The teenager previously stayed with his mother in the Isle of Man, and moved to the West Dunbartonshire town in 2013 to live with his father.
