I woke up on Sunday morning and thought I’d slipped into a Disney style Sleeping Beauty slumber. It felt like I’d gone to bed on a wet cold March evening and I’d woken up months later on a beautiful June morning because the sun was splitting the trees in Shawlands and it honestly brought the biggest smile to my face.

You actually forget how much you miss the sun especially since the average Scottish summertime lasts about three to five days each year so upon seeing that strange yellow ball in the sky I just knew that I had to get out of the house and go on a little mini adventure quick smart.

I decided to head up to the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond and the drive from Glasgow was so gorgeous I even had to dig out my sunglasses that had been packed away in my summer suit case last September (they were lying wrapped in a black bikini I bought from Razzle Dazzle back in 1998 which I’m refusing to throw out because I swear to all the beachbody Gods I will get into it one day) just so I could see the road clearly.

We went for a beautiful walk and had lunch at Duck Bay Marina which was made extra special because of the lovely window seat we were lucky enough to get. T

The food was delicious and Stuart King and his team didn’t stop the entire time we were in the restaurant, looking after everyone so well even though it was so busy there was a queue right out of the door at points.

We then took a walk around the gorgeous grounds of Cameron House and we were so excited to catch the sea plane as it came into land, much to the excitement of the group of children who had gathered at the jetty with their parents in the hopes they might catch a glimpse of the huge water bird.

It was early evening by the time we set off for home when I noticed the huge bellowing black smoke clouds occupying most of the sky above me. At first I thought something on Loch Lomond had caught fire because it looked so close to us but after we checked the Evening Times website we discovered that the fire was actually all the way over in Govan at a car scrapyard.

Glasgow Times:

According to reports more than 50 brave and courageous firefighters were deployed to tackle the huge blaze which involved pumping water straight from the River Clyde during which time more than 3000 homes in Glasgow’s south side were left without power.

There was also pictures that showed the huge flames and black smoke could been seen as far as the Isle of Arran and as the night went on the most incredible pictures appeared online of firefighters trying in vain to control the blaze and shut it down.

I was utterly gripped and in total awe of these amazing men and women tackling this ferocious fire for hours on end right through until the next morning. I thought how lucky we are to have our emergency services and how we perhaps are sometimes guilty of taking them for granted in our lives.

Thank you so much to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and to all of those involved in responding to the unfortunate events in Govan on Sunday. We all, each of us, once again owe you a great debt for all you do to ensure our safety every single day of the week. I hope we never see another fire like it.

As for the sun, we’ll he’s welcome to come back any old time, in fact I’m actually feeling so positive about his imminent return to our sky that I’m leaving my sunglasses in the car just in case. Now, if I could only find a way to remain that hopeful and positive to that wee Razzle Dazzle bikini ever seeing the light of day.

Attention people of Scotland. This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill. Something wonderful has happened and it’s sitting waiting for you in your local Co-Op store. King of Indian cuisine Mister Singh’s and Pars Foods have teamed up to create a little slice of heaven known as Curry in a Pie.

Mr Jit Singh who created the Ambala delight 60 years ago has handed over his secret recipe and the results are to die for. What’s more 1p from every pie sold will go to charity Mary’s Meals who aid some of the world’s poorest children by providing food and water.

Trust me, you have to give this tasty treat a try because while you’re tantalising your tastebuds you’ll also be making a huge difference to so many people’s lives who badly need our help and support. Go on, give the Chicken Ambala Curry Pie a try. You won’t regret it.
