It was an announcement no-one saw coming and, when it was made, Scottish fans of global music sensation Céline Dion should have been celebrating with the news she’s heading for the Hydro in August. Instead, the mood quickly turned sour for many.

Fans took to her social media pages to vent their fury at the fact the announcement had been made so last-minute when many of them had already spent hundreds of pounds on tickets, travel, and accommodation to see her in England in June.

And as if that wasn’t enough, her fans who signed up to her Team Céline fan site received no email warning that early bird tickets were going on sale for as little as £51.10 on Tuesday morning at 9am.

Much-loved Céline felt the wrath of fans who took to her Facebook.

One wrote: “Good way to p**s your Scottish fans off when half of us have booked tickets for shows in England plus travel and accommodation already!! Why couldn’t you release a Scottish date to begin with??”

Another said: “Seriously Celine this has just peeved me off big time! Price of tickets at Glasgow hydro shocking who can afford £170 for a tier 2 ticket think you need to catch a grip! Cheaper to head to London!”

Other fans revealed how they, too, were in a predicament having spent a small fortune to go see her in Birmingham and Manchester in June when she’ll practically be on their doorstep in August.

What’s with the announcement?

On Tuesday morning, Céline announced she will be bringing her live 2017 UK and European tour to the SSE Hydro in Glasgow on August 5.

The show will be the only Scotland performance of the 25-date summer tour that has seen record demand since being announced earlier this year.

Céline’s return to Scotland’s biggest (and best) city will be her first visit since her last performance at the SECC 21 years ago.

Prior to this, Céline performed a sell-out concert to over 65,000 fans at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium, one of her last stadium shows on UK shores for over 19 years.

Céline’s glittering career has seen her sell over 250 million albums, gain five Grammy Awards and two Academy Awards - and that’s just the tip of the iceberg (pardon the pun).

After 35 years as a performing and recording artist, Céline has achieved legendary status in popular music and is renowned for having one of the most powerful and moving singing voices ever heard - so the fact she’s finally coming to Scotland is a pretty big deal for her legions of fans.

How much are tickets?

There’s been some confusion about ticket prices and their release date, so let’s clear that up.

Céline’s team announced on her Facebook and Twitter pages early on Tuesday morning that presale tickets would go on sale to Team Céline members at 9am.

For fans who were quick to logon, tickets were snapped up for as little at £51.10.

The presale will end at 8pm on April 6, after which they will go on general release at 9am on Friday, April 7.

The presale is still going on, although it seems the £51.10 tickets are gone, as are the £73.80 ones.

The next one up from that is a pricey £102.15.

The two most affordable options - £51.10 and £73.80 - seem to have gone in the presale

If you haven’t signed up to Team Céline and do want to check the ticket situation out for yourself, you can do so at celinedion.com/join and head to the booking section.

Those with deep pockets can opt for the most expensive - a jaw-dropping £525 for a ‘Signature VIP Package’ ticket.

What can fans expect on the night?

If past shows and her Vegas residency are anything to go by, fans can expect energy, enthusiasm - and a strong performer-to-audience connection.

The set list hasn’t yet been confirmed, but her team has said the tour will feature an array of smash-hits from her incredible 30-plus year career.

Her Vegas shows, for example, have brought:

  • I Drove All Night
  • I Surrender
  • Where Does My Heart Beat Now?
  • Because You Loved Me
  • Medley: It’s All Coming Back to Me Now/The Power of Love
  • Beauty And The Beast
  • Immortality - a virtual duet with the Bee Gees
  • All by Myself
  • Medley: A New Day Has Come/That’s The Way It Is/I’m Alive
  • My Heart Will Go On
  • Medley: Kiss/Purple Rain
  • Medley: Love Can Move Mountains/River Deep, Mountain High
  • The Show Must Go On

It is hoped she will also sing ‘Recovering’, an emotional song written by Pink in the aftermath of the death of Céline’s husband René last year.
