As Madonna herself said: “if we took a holiday, took some time to celebrate, just one day out of life, it would be so nice.”

Let me tell you old Madge was onto something here. I’ve just returned from a five day break to the Greek Island of Santorini and it's the closest thing to heaven on earth I've ever experienced. Well apart from that moment when you've been wearing high heels all night and you finally get to take them off, and you give your poor wee tootsies the sweet relief they’ve been crying out for, that truly is heaven on earth.

Last May my partner and I went away for my birthday and I came back an engaged woman so we thought we’d go away again at the same time this year to mark our wee anniversary of sorts.

Santorini has been on my bucket list for ages as the pictures online of the white pristine buildings with their bright blue roofs look too good to be true and I wanted to see it for myself. Due to work commitments we could only get five days away but we made the most of our time and it felt like a proper break away all thanks to the accommodation we booked.

The internet makes it so easy to package up your own holiday by booking flights and accommodation separately but you always hope and pray that after hours of scanning through Trip Advisor. It has now become my new obsession after reading Tom from Surrey’s comedy gold rant about a gorgeous five star hotel’s lack of respect or consideration for guests because it rained on July, that you've booked a lovely place to spend your holiday.

Oia is the most luxurious part of Santorini and is flooded with tourists as a result so by the time we tried to book everything had predictably gone. I was bitterly disappointed and began looking at other parts of the island when I stumbled across a newly opened group of apartments called the Orabel Suites in Perivolos which is about a 30 minute drive from Oia. It has the most wonderful beach lined with beautiful bars and restaurants not to mention the abundance of luxurious sun loungers and proper four poster beds to relax on while sunbathing by the crystal blue sea.

The reviews and pictures online for the Orabel Suites were stunning and I was sure that nowhere could be that beautiful in real life but oh how wrong I was. In reality it was even better and the pictures simply didn't do the place justice.

From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty by Jannis and his team and I have never stayed anywhere more private, peaceful and picturesque.

Every suite had its own private plunge pool/Jacuzzi, a stunning breakfast would be delivered to your room every morning for you to enjoy in the privacy of your own balcony and the staff were on hand to help you navigate the island from car hire to sightseeing tips.

It was without a doubt one of the best holidays I've ever had and I was so sad to leave yesterday but we’re already looking at dates to return next year if possible. We all work so hard throughout the year and it's just so good to switch off sometimes and take a break from the hustle and bustle of day to day life.

Even if you don't leave the house but sit out in the garden or go to the local park just to take some time out to yourself and relax because let's be honest if the Queen of Pop’s been singing about it for more than 30 years then it must be true.

Then again she did sing about a Beautiful Stranger although I absolutely would not advise you to go walking up to random people on the street and tell them “they could be good for you because you have a taste for danger.” Definitely don't do that.
