A 37-year-old postman on his daily round has been robbed after two men stole letters from him.

Police have launched an investigation in to the incident which took place in Ardrossan at 12.05pm today.

The postman was walking in Lawson Drive when he was approached by two men.

They had a chat and then the two men forcibly took a bundle of letters.

Residents in the area got involved in the incident before the men made off.

Investigating officers say the postman was uninjured but visibly shaken. 

The first suspect is described as a black male, 6ft tall of medium to heavy build with short cropped black hair and a full beard.

He was wearing a blue navy jumper, black trousers and had an English accent. 

The second suspect is described as a black male, 5ft 6in in height with a slim build.

He was wearing a dark two-piece suit with a dark jumer underneath and was softly spoken with an English accent.

Detective Sergeant Craig Semple said: "Although the man was unhurt, it was quite a frightening experience for him as he was just going about his work.

"Some neighbours who heard the commotion intervened to alert police and this is when the men ran off.

"I would like to speak to anyone who recognises the description of the men to contact police at Saltcoats quoting reference number 1543 June 7."
