A SWIMMING pool in Glasgow is in line for £100,000 of improvements after complaints were made about the number of working lockers.

After pool users reported that only 60 of the 200 lockers in Drumchapel Pool were in working order, local Councillor Elspeth Kerr contacted the owners of the facility.

The newly elected councillor then raised the matter with Glasgow Life which oversees the running of the pool.

She said: “I contacted them after people were telling me about the issues with the facilities that had not been addressed for some time.

“They said 140 of the 200 lockers were broken and not working properly.”

After being notified about the issue the arms-length body to the council visited the swimming pool.

As well as the lockers being repaired Glasgow Life also pointed out more works to upgrade the facility.

Mrs Kerr added: “After there visit they said the pool was going to get new showers, new tiles and new LED lights.

“They also said the sauna area was going to be upgraded as well.

“It’s great for the pool to get this upgrade.

“Residents of Drumchapel have taken the issue up for quite a while now and it is very reassuring to hear Glasgow Life have pledged to make improvements.”

The councillor added that the works were aimed to be completed by next April.

Glasgow Life said the improvements were already ongoing with work already started.

A spokeswoman for Glasgow Life said: “Over the coming year, we have plans to carry out around £100,000 worth of improvements to Glasgow Club Drumchapel Pool.

“This includes work which has already been carried out such as replacing the pool lighting with higher quality LED lights, and upcoming work including replacing the venue’s lockers and carrying out work to improve the aesthetic appearance of the pool tiling.”
