Glasgow movie buffs who were all geared up for the time of their lives at a pop-up Dirty Dancing Movie experience in the city were left gutted last night after a screening was pulled last-minute.

Those who were quick to snap up tickets weeks ago to the Dirty Dancing Movie Experience flooded the organiser’s Facebook page with complaints after heading to the venue to discover it had been pulled.

The Evening Times reported earlier this month how the unique experience would be taking place this weekend in the Shed Studios, just yards away from Glasgow’s BBC and STV HQ.

Audiences were told to expect a complimentary glass of bubbles on arrival.

They were also told that, once seated, they would be able to take full advantage of a themed bar and choose from a selection of themed cocktails and specially prepared street food.

Organisers had also warned how the screenings were in high demand and were close to being either sold out or close to being full.

However, it seems all has not gone to plan for fans of the 1987 smash-hit movie as organisers cancelled last night’s screening, much to the dismay of fans.

One woman, from Dalry, this afternoon described the experience as the “worst experience of our lives.”

Other were quick to flag up their concerns over the event to Trading Standards Scotland and Glasgow City Council.

Another Dirty Dancing fan wrote to the organiser: “Took my mum for her birthday [Friday] night in Glasgow and was honestly worst experience I ever had - absolutely joke. Wasted nearly £100 for nothing, left after 30 minutes into being there.

“Half the food menu wasn’t being served due to being not cooked properly and couldn’t serve it.

“Then when we did get our food, they got it wrong. The drinks were disgusting and had half the ingredients missing.

“When questioned, they then told us they didn’t have what they needed to make them properly.”

Dozens of complaints were also made over the poor sound quality of the film.

In a statement issued late last night, organisers said: “The nature of a pop-up cinema event is that screenings are held in unusual locations, creating a unique experience.

“Unfortunately, this also means they can be a little bit like Marmite - people either love the style of the event and the unusual venues, or they hate them and prefer a more traditional environment.

“Due to a technical fault we took the difficult decision to cancel the remaining events on the evening of the 19th.

“We could have pushed on with these screenings, but creating a quality pop-up experience for all is important to us and so we postponed these events.

“Every person affected by this cancellation has automatically been refunded and this should appear on their accounts in four to five working days, as is industry standard for refund processing.

“Those affected by the cancellation will also be invited to a free screening in the near future.”

It continued: “This decision was taken by us and we were in no way shut down by any authority.

“As various people had expressed some concern about the warehouse style set up, we gave Glasgow City Council Licensing Standards a tour, no issues were raised and they confirmed they had no reason to object to the event going ahead as planned on the 20th.

“Anyone that wishes to confirm this directly with Glasgow City Council Licensing Standards is able to do so.

“We would like apologise again to anyone affected by the cancellation.

“We have been working hard to remedy the technical fault and look forward to bringing back the Dirty Dancing Experience to our audience on Sunday 20th August.”
