IT is said another realm exists where other worldly beings dwell and the only way to communicate with them is to carry out rituals or play paranormal games.

Halloween is the most popular time of year for people to attempt to contact spirits, but these are not simple games and playing them poses huge risks and may scar you for life.

Think twice about playing these if friends suggest a spooky game this Halloween.

1. Spirit of the Coin

This is a spooky game similar to the Ouija board. The spirit of the coin uses a talking board to contact spirits and communicate with them.

To play this game you willl need four items:

  • A piece of paper
  • A pen
  • A candle
  • A silver coin

The set up:

  • Write down the letters of the alphabet around the left, right and top of the paper
  • Write the numbers 0 to 9 across the bottom of the paper
  • Write start, stop, yes and no in the centre

Glasgow Times:

How to play

  • Go to a dark room and light the candle
  • Have the players place their index finger on the coin
  • Place the coin on the word 'start'
  • Ask for the permission of the spirits and wait for them to guide the coin to the word 'yes'
  • Only ask the spirits questions AFTER they have given their permission
  • They will spell their answers out using the letters and numbers
  • Have someone list the letters as the spirits may move the coin quickly

To end the game

  • Thank the spirits for their cooperation
  • Place the coin on the word 'end'

2. Closet / wardrobe Game

Glasgow Times:

This is a truly terrifying paranormal ghost game that can be played by one or two people.

The object of the gameis to summon a demon.

Warning: The Closet Game is very dangerous - summoning a demon could result in you becoming possessed or being dragged into eternal darkness.

3. Charlie Charlie

This game made its rounds on the internet earlier this year, drawing similarities to the old Spanish game 'Juego de la Lapicera' as both games use pencils.

The game is banned in some eastern European countries.

Glasgow Times:

How to play

  • Place two crossing pencils on top of a sheet of paper containign the words 'yes' and 'no'
  • Before asking any questions it is important to ask the permission of Charlie by asking "Charlie, are you here?" or "Charlie, can we play"
  • The top pencil should move by itself with the tip pointing to his answer
  • If he answers 'yes' you can now ask any question that requires a 'yes' or 'no' answer

To end the game

  • You must ask Charlie permission to end the game

The game was dismissed by scientists as a hoax, but there are a few people who consider it to be a real paranormal game.

4. The Elevator Game

Glasgow Times:

The Elevator Game is an urban legend ritual that originated in Korea proclaiming to allow the player to access another world.

The death of Canadian student Elisa Lam in 2013 provided an opportunity to boost the game's notoriety as the last video footage before she died shows her strange behavior in an elevator - one of the hypotheses to explain this strange behavior was that Elisa was playing the elevator game.

5. The Three Kings

Glasgow Times:

Nobody had heard of this spirit game until 2013, when Redditor FableForge took to the subreddit to post a thread about the fabled Three Kings Ritual rules under the title “Please don’t actually try this”.

FableForge then went on to explain that what he was sharing was a “relatively safe way in which you can access the Shadowside”.

“I won’t tell you that you shouldn’t be afraid of the Shadowside; chances are you’ve already seen it after all, and merely think it was just a recurring dream."

The rules are very specific, and the ingredients and setup are equally important in order for the ‘game’ to work successfully, though not once in the post does FableForge actually tell the reader what exactly will happen if the ritual is successful.

6. Bloody Mary

Glasgow Times:

One of the oldest paranormal games, Bloody Mary takes its roots from the folklore of the same name  - it is not known who Bloody Mary really is.

Some peple claim she is a vengeful witch while others say she is the spirit of Queen Mary who had a history of miscarriages, earning her the moniker, 'Bloody Mary'.

The game involves looking into a mirror in a dark room and saying 'Bloody Mary' three times.

WARNING: Invooking Bloody Mary is not recommended.

7. Ouija Board

Glasgow Times:

Perhaps the most famous and enigmatic of all paranormal games, the Ouija board allows players to communicate with the spirits, particularly relatives that have passed on but can't find solace in the spiritual world.

It can also be used to ask the spirits for advice on life and love.

REMEMBER: If you are tempted to try contacting spirits with a ouija board, always play it with two or more people.
