Glasgow’s most lavish building looks like it’s one step closer to being snapped up - four years after being vacated.

Former wedding venue 22 Park Circus is now “under offer,” according to letting agent Rettie.

Offers for the property were over £1.5 million since it hit the market earlier this year.

Close to the city centre and other landmarks, the unique property was built to the designs of Architect Charles Wilson and interior by James Boucher in the mid 19th Century.

Its 12,000 sq ft sprawl over four floors and it is constructed of dressed stone under a slate roof.

Internally, the mansion retains a wealth of period detail, including the striking iconic columns on the ground floor - which create a breathtaking entrance - and also a wide marble staircase leading to the main reception rooms on the first floor.

One of the most jaw-dropping features is the elaborate forged metalwork throughout which was commissioned by the original owner, still a main feature of the property today.

The ceiling cornice work is of particular note and “very fine” for this type and age of house, says the listing, which can be viewed here.

The Evening Times reported back in the summer of 2013 how the hugely popular wedding venue held its last ceremonies after 20 years of service to the city.

More than 26,000 ceremonies had been carried out there since 1994, and Glasgow City Council - which was responsible for the registrar’s service - decided to move on after the lease for the building expired.

We also reported at the time how Glasgow’s registrar’s service is one of the busiest in Scotland with an average of 1,500 weddings and civil partnership ceremonies conducted each year.
