Evening Times columnist Michelle McManus has revealed she has headed back to the studio - 14 years after taking the nation by storm and winning Pop Idol.

The singer is appearing as the lead vocalist alongside Choirs With Purpose to record and release a cover of Paul McCartney’s 1984 hit ‘We All Stand Together’ for charity.

Michelle made the revelation on her social media channels this week.

Posting an image of herself belting out the notes in the studio, the 37-year-old said: “Well I’m delighted and honoured to announce that I am singing lead vocal along with Choirs With Purpose on the new charity single released on Friday, November 24.

“It’s a cover of ‘We All Stand Together’ and, what’s more, Sir Paul McCartney has given the single his full blessing and has waived all royalties on the track too.

“It’s a beautiful song and all profits from the single and album will be divided equally between the choirs’ associated charities, including MND Scotland and the One Love Manchester Appeal.”

Choirs With Purpose is made up of ten singing groups from across the UK who have come together to collaborate on a new crowdfunded charity album “in response to recent events which have threatened the peace and unity of our communities.”

Ex-talent show winner Michelle last recorded in the studio with Scottish band Mànran in 2012 when she appeared on the single ‘Take You There’ for that year’s STV Children’s Appeal.

She won ITV’s Pop Idol in 2003 and stormed to the top of the charts with her debut single ‘All This Time’ and album ‘The Meaning of Love’.
