THE city council has reassured residents that the annual Christmas lights switch on will go ahead - after a fake post on social media said the event had been cancelled.
The local authority confirmed that the ticketed event on November 19 in George Square will run as planned.
Their announcement comes after The Evening Times reported that a fake Facebook page pretending to be the local authority was set up.
The page Glasgow City Council Info appeared on the social media website Facebook on Wednesday and received over 1,300 likes from people.
The page, however, appears to have been removed after the local authority reported the matter to Facebook.
Glasgow City Council said: "Please ignore fake Facebook pages. The Christmas lights switch on is definitely on."
More people than ever put their name in the ballot for the chance to secure tickets for the ceremony, with a total of 317,184 tickets requested.
Only 16,000 tickets are available and successful applicants received an e-mail.
