A POPULAR band has paid tribute to a woman who collapsed and died at one of their performances in Glasgow.

The four-piece tribute group the Jerseytones was at the Marriott Hotel on Saturday night when a member of the audience became ill.

An ambulance was called and the crew attended to the woman who has been named by the band as May McIntyre.

The Glasgow-based band tweeted: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of May McIntyre who very sadly passed away while attending our performance at the Marriott Hotel last night.

"Even though paramedics attended the scene they couldn't save her.

"We would like to thank everyone who attended to help and also everyone in the audience for not crowding around as paramedics did their job."

A woman who was in the audience at the concert said the woman became ill while the band was having a break and not onstage.

She added: "They should have come back for the second half of their performance but they decided not to because of what had happened. What happened to the woman was really tragic."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said they received a call just before midnight on Saturday to attend an incident at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow.

She added: "We dispatched one paramedic response unit and one ambulance.

“One female patient in her sixties was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary."
