STUNNING pictures of hundreds of Glasgow landmarks feature in a new book by a city photojournalist.

Now Glasgow by photographer Allan Wright and city writer Des Dillon boasts 240 images of well known places, cityscapes and people.

A light hearted narrative explains the history of Scotland's largest city and how it and its residents have evolved over the decades.

The book includes images of the Clyde, the Hydro and the SECC bathed in morning sunshine to shots of Rogano's and the Grand Central Hotel.

Mr Wright said: “I grew up in Glasgow and every time I come back I love seeing how it has evolved.

“It is vibrant, bold and confident – a city on the move and in a direction which others should be inspired by.

“I've spent two years working on this book and taken so much joy out of working with the city's residents and tourists.”

City council leader Susan Aitken said the photographs show Glasgow contributes as much to Scotland's unparalled scenic splendour as any mountain and glen.

She added: “Whether in the old – Holmwood house, the Mitchell Library or the Tron Steeple – or the new – Skypark and the Hydro – he has captured and put on display the true beauty of the urban landscape.

“The photos will strike instant recognition and memory in everyone who knows and loves Glasgow as well as making us look afresh at familiar scenes shown in a new and unfamiliar light.

“Above all though, Allan has captured in the faces that appear in the book, the personality and spirit of the people who populate the Glasgow landscape.

“Yes we have stunning buildings and streetscapes lush parks and incredible views but none of them would mean anything without the Glaswegians who bring them to life. This is a book for and about them.”
