IT'S just a week since we launched our #spothole campaign - but the response has come in thick and fast.

Readers have been emailing, tweeting and Facebook messaging their biggest and ugliest potholes to the Evening Times.

We want to jolt Glasgow City Council into action by highlighting the problem across the city.

And so far we've heard terrible tales of damage caused to cars by crumbling roads.

Karen Colquhoun got in touch to tell us about a pothole on Anniesland Road, in Knightswood.

She wrote: "[There's a pothole] on Anniesland Road at the end of Alderman Road heading toward the Fire Station.

"It destroyed my tyre on New Year’s Day and the guy who came out to fix it had a few other drivers on the same day."

We are keen to hear how many readers have spent time and money at the garage after driving over Glasgow potholes.

Garage owners around the city told us last week they are making a fortune repairing wheel damage for city drivers.

And it is easy to believe after viewing the images sent in to us by you.

One garage owner spoke of a 60 per cent increase in repairs to cars suffering pothole damage.

Owner David Mathewson of Cairnlea Garage in Ibrox called some city potholes "frightening" with the amount of damage they can cause.

Reader Derek McKenzie has sent us in a selection of pictures of Mayfield Street in Carntyne but says more are coming to us of Edinburgh Road.

He said: "There are loads [on Edinburgh Road] and they are not repairing them properly - just shabby patch work."

We are also keen to hear how long potholes are being left without repairs.

So far the most impressive time scale is... three years, according to reader Paul Strathdee.

Paul Strathdee told us: "There is a large pothole on Girvan Street in Riddrie now going into its third year.

"Takes a medium sized car wheel easily."

Elizabeth Bandeen warned us on Twitter of Corkerhill Road's junction with Paisley Road West, a street already named and shamed last week in the Evening Times.

And Aitch, also on Twitter, tells us of a hot spot on the South Side.

He tweeted: "The entirety of Merrylee Road. It's split right up the middle in an axle-threatening manner."

Tim Malseed also has an eagle eye on the South Side

He tweeted to the Evening Times: "There’s a chasm at the bus stop opposite the Star Bar on the Pollokshaws Road.

"Apparently you can see it from space."

Of course, some roads are too dangerous to stop and photograph - but you can still alert us to them.

Karen McAulay said: "Try the top of Langlands road leading to junction with Shieldhall Road.

"Far too busy road to measure or photo the potholes, really bad stretch."

Our #spothole campaign comes after Glasgow City Council revealed it had received 602 pothole reports in the first week of 2018 compared to 162 in the same week last year.

There were also eight pothole complaints made from January 1 to January 7 - compared to 42 for the whole of 2017.

The council has said it welcomes reports of potholes from residents and blamed the recent cold snap for the particularly bad state of the roads currently.

A spokeswoman said: "We are maximising the number of pothole and patching squads undertaking repairs throughout the city."

We've been to the South Side of the city and round the City Centre.

Readers have told us about the East End, West End and the North of Glasgow but where is the city's biggest pothole?

We need you to take a photograph of the damage using an item such as a ruler - or a copy of the Evening Times - for scale and send it to us via direct message on our Facebook page.

Alternatively, email your pothole to news@eveningtimes.co.uk, or tweet it using the hashtag #spothole.

Give us your name, the location of the pothole, its size and tell us how long it's been there.

The pothole we deem to be the most dangerous based on size, location and length of time left unresolved will win the prize.

We will print your name with your picture.

What is your response? These are 2 together on Royston Rd at St Philamena’s Chapel. I ran over them in the dark Tuesday night 9th January. As you can see they are huge and filled with water which makes it even harder to see, at least 3” of water another 2” to road level = 5”deep. Something needs to be done. Im raging as my Road Tax is due Febuary, what are we paying it for.
