GREEN energy tariffs may be becoming more popular but it's all about the money for Glasgow consumers.

Following a study by Which?, which measured the satisfaction with different energy suppliers, smaller and medium firms like Utility Warehouse and Flow Energy came at the top of the list.

Alex Neill, of Which, said green firms were now more affordable with people 'no longer having to pay a premium' for them.

In Glasgow, value for money was key.

Matthew Yeoman, 31, an accountant, said he would switch to a green tariff "if I had more money to spend."

"If I had more money to spend yes, but at the moment no," he said.

"They are generally more expensive, not significantly but the cheapest tariffs don’t tend to be green tariffs.”

Kenneth Barn, 61, a self-employed contract cleaner from Renfrew, said: "It would be more the costing that would attract me to it, but there are also ethical reasons, but at the moment I am not familiar with the ethics of the companies".

Yasmin Ahmed, Smart metering company employee, from the Southside, said she would switch "if they gave a good offer."

She added: "You find that their standard tariffs are quite expensive so you obviously have to go by someone who has a reasonable price, especially nowadays.

"With everything going up in price you do have to watch what you spend.”

Forty-nine-year-old Allan Snedden, an event manager from the West End, said he would 'possibly' switch.

He said: "It’s the same raw material, it doesn’t matter who provides it, so environmentals don’t really come into play.

"They all claim to use renewable sources, it’s easy to put in a poster but you don’t really know where it comes from. They can all claim to be as environmentally friendly as the next one be but you don’t really know, so I tend to take all of them with a pinch of salt.”

Fay Dornan, A 64-year-old support worker, from Govan, said she was with a green supplier.

She added: "I think it will be important, probably it will be a lot more important in years to come.”
