COUNCIL chiefs have been left red-faced after claiming they could not empty wheelie bins because of “the icy weather”.
Residents were left fuming after Renfrewshire Council said they were unable to carry out collections earlier this week because waste inside bins had frozen.
Temperatures across Renfrewshire had dropped as low as -4C, although climbed to 2.3C in on Wednesday afternoon.
But customers were told by the local authority that they would have to wait until the next scheduled date which is two weeks time.
The council posted on Facebook: “Brown bins could not be collected today as their contents froze in the icy weather.
“They will now be collected on the next scheduled date.
“Apologies for any inconvenience.”
Residents from the area commented on the “wind up” while others joked they wouldn’t pay council tax “this week”.
One of the posts said: “I have heard some belters, but this one is a cracker.”
Another added: “Lol still waiting on mine being emptied from over 1 month ago, also still waiting on my disposable bags, that’s been 6 months now!”
Another continued: “It’s like you don’t even try anymore.”
