THREE new floodlit tennis courts are planned for Garrowhill Park in the East End.

Glasgow Life along with Tennis Scotland, city education bosses and voluntary groups operating in the east of the city have been trying to identify pockets of demand in the area.

A range of sites were assessed which resulted in Garrowhill Park and Glasgow Club Easterhouse being identified as two locations for new investment in tennis.

It was decided Garrowhill would be the first project to be brought forward and the plan is to build three, floodlit courts on the site of former tennis courts in the park owned by the city council.

Glasgow Life and Tennis Scotland plan to encourage use through a programme of tennis activity which will include a mixture of coaching for juniors and adults, school use and casual use.

Outwith organised sessions, all public use of the courts will be free and bookings will be possible through Glasgow Life’s online booking system.

Access to the courts will be controlled through a management system allowing the number of people using them to be recorded and monitored.

The system will link to the floodlight controls to ensure lights are not left on when nobody is playing to ensure energy efficiency targets are met.

The Glasgow Life run Garrowhill community centre will support the use of the courts by providing information about the activity and coaching.
