Sauchiehall Street, which is currently being developed as part of the Avenue project, has become an 'eyesore' for one retailer.

The worker, who asked not to be named, said rubbish and graffiti is putting customers off.

He added: "At the moment, it's just an eyesore.

"From my door, there is rubbish strewn everywhere. One lot looks like it has just been dumped - I don't even think it will be the council's responsibility to clear it up so it will just be left there.

"We all have to leave our rubbish in the street but there's some that's been there for days and it looks disgusting.

"I saw the owners of Mountain Warehouse out repainting their walls because of all the graffiti.

"All the side streets and abandoned doorways stink of urine and are covered in rubbish as well.

"You would expect more from one of main streets in the city."

As well as big retailers BHS, Greaves Sports and New Look, several cafe and restaurants including Food Fillas and Pommes Frites have closed down on the street.

Glasgow City Council said they are working their way through the backlog of missed collections as well as the normal, scheduled ones.
