A Coatbridge business owner has said he has received death threats and racist abuse over a social media post he made following the Old Firm match.

Shindy Singh, owner of The Indian Sizzler on Sunnyside Road, posted a message to his personal Facebook account following Rangers 2 - 3 defeat to Celtic on Sunday.

The now deleted message is reported to have said: “Get back into ur graves ya zombie scum”.

In the days since, the takeaway boss has been bombarded with abuse from football fans who were also leaving one star reviews on the restaurant's website.

Mr Singh originally said that his account had been hacked but later admitted that he had made 'a big mistake'.

Taking to Facebook to apologise, he added: “Just like to say so shocked and upset with past few days.

“Meant to be banter with good mates, no meaning to offend anyone at all.

“Made a big mistake.

“Wrote things I shouldn't have, panicked and now would like to apologise to everyone who seen my stupid post.

“But the death threats to me and my family along with trying to ruin my business and not to mention countless racial abuse I have had the last two days is beyond a joke.”

The apology was met with a mixed reaction from the public.

Alan Batterson, said: “Have to say the use of the word banter for your apology is way of the mark your comment was far from being banter and I'd say is probably going to hit you in the pocket as I'm sure and I hope that no true Rangers Fan will set foot across your door again and I'm sure there'll be some decent Celtic Fans out there will feel the same.... SHOCKING FROM SOMEONE WHO OFFERS A SERVICE IN A COMMUNITY.”

Chloe Mcghee, added: “I wouldn’t even apologise. You wrote it on your own personal page not your business page. I’m sure you’ll still have plenty other customers...ones that aren’t whining c****.”

Donna Pearson, said: “It’s funny people think it’s wrong for Shindy to make a remark like every other person watching the football yesterday but don’t think it’s wrong for people to be posting death threats, threats about burning down the shop or racist comments.”

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
