HEARTLESS shoplifters stole hundreds of pounds worth of clothes from a popular boutique on the day they were celebrating their first birthday.

Glasgow-based Ruby Woo Boutique, who have two stores in the city, was targeted over two days by two women who stole around £300 worth of items.

A lone shoplifter stole around £40 worth of items from the West End boutique on Great Western Road on Friday before returning with another woman to the retailer's Shawlands store to carry out a similar raid the following day.

The Shawlands store on Skirving Street was celebrating its first birthday when the shoplifting duo managed to make off with £260 worth of items.

Heartbroken owner Fiona Barclay told The Evening Times: "It is our bread and butter, it is what we do seven days a week.

"We have invested everything we have got into this business. So from the point of view that you give your heart and soul to something, and then someone comes through the doors and takes what they like from your shop, it is absolutely gutting and heart-wrenching."

She added: "When these people are in the shop, they make my staff feel on edge. We can't tend to our customers and give them what we are really renowned for - and that is giving amazing five star service. We can't do that when we are worried about who is in our shop."

Fiona also urged anyone who is offered Ruby Woo clothes at a cheaper price on the streets to contact police immediately.

The Ruby Woo brand has gained fame thanks to its famous ambassador Lisa Hague, who is the wife of the ex-Celtic star Kris Commons.

The bubbly mum regularly models for the store and shares images of their clothes on social media.

Police Scotland confirmed that they are investigating the shoplifting incident.

A spokeswoman added: "Enquiries are ongoing."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101.
