A DENNISTOUN man who was jailed for his role in a crime gang who were locked up for their dealings in drugs, firearms, serious violence and dirty money was rushed to hospital after he was slashed in jail.

Evening Times:

Martyn Fitzsimmons, 37, was attacked at HMP Low Moss where he is serving a 10 and a half year sentence.

The Scottish Sun report that the former squaddie was assaulted in the East Dunbartonshire prison's gym shortly after 10am on Thursday.

He was then rushed by ambulance to Glasgow’s Royal Infirmary.

A source told the newspaper: “There have been several incidents in Low Moss lately but ‘Fitzy’ is the biggest name yet to be targeted.

“It was a blatant attack in the gym. He was slashed with some sort of blade. He was in quite a bad way and was taken straight to hospital.

“Whoever did it must be very brave or stupid because Fitzsimmons is obviously a high-level criminal — he will be seeking revenge.”

Evening Times:

Fitzsimmons was caught with a Glock pistol, ammo and £36,000 of dirty cash when cops arrested the criminal gang he was part of.

He began his prison sentence after he was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow in January.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to a report of a serious assault on a 37-year-old man at HMP Low Moss around 10.30am on Thursday.

“He was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries.”

The Scottish Prison Service added that they “don’t comment” on individual prisoners.

Fitzsimmons' crime gang  was branded the “most sophisticated” in Scotland when they were jailed for a total of 87 years.

The nine-strong mob was locked up for their dealings in drugs, firearms, serious violence and dirty money.

The list of crimes included the "merciless" torture of a man over an unpaid cocaine debt and a huge arsenal of weapons found hidden in a car.
