Brendan Rodgers stands now on the precipice of a double treble at Celtic and for me that is something pretty special.

Should he be successful in delivering that it will be a phenomenal achievement. There is a reason why it has never been done before and that is because of just how difficult it is to do – and I don’t care what level of football you are at.

People will look at make comments about the standard of the league or talk about opposition teams not providing the same challenge but that is nothing to do with Celtic.

The sheer consistency has been remarkable and for me Rodgers has to be Manager of the Year again because of it.

He took the club through the qualifiers and back into the group stages of the UEFA Champions League. To finish third in that and make it into the Europa League was the challenge they set out to achieve and while results in the group weren’t what they would have wanted, you only have to look at the financial figures released the week to appreciate just how important it is for Celtic to be there.

That aside, I think that if you lead a team to a clean sweep of all domestic trophies on offer then you have to expect to take significant acclaim on the back of. And if you do it for the second season running, which no-one has, then you have to be able to applaud just how unique that is.

I think Steve Clark has done a fabulous job at Kilmarnock. I know that there are many who feel that he deserves to be rewarded for that while Kris Boyd too might be an outside runner for Player of the Year consideration.

For me, though, that would be very straightforward again. Scott Brown has been head and shoulders above. He has been outstanding this season and, again, what you would have to look to is the sheer consistency that he has shown.

He is a guy who has been completely revitalised under Rodgers. You can sense the influence that he has on the dressing room and in the team and he has grown into a real Celtic captain.

Brown is the player that other teams love to hate and that always tells its own story. He is a guy that everyone would love to have on their team which is why he gets so much stick.

In any case, he deserves the gong this term because he has been huge for Celtic and the standout performer in the country.

I’m not so sure that he will care too much for personal accolades but the one he certainly will want to get his hands on this weekend is the league title.

As I said last week, who you win the league against makes very little difference to the fact that you go out and do it. I can understand that from the Celtic support’s point of view it would be sweet to win it against your oldest rivals – and let’s be honest Rangers won’t relish playing at Celtic Park next weekend after the display at Hampden – but as a player and a manager you want it done as quickly as it possible can be.

Hibs at Easter Road is the hardest challenge that Celtic could have had. Neil Lennon will have Hibs fired up as they push for that second spot but Celtic’s momentum on the back of the game at Hampden should carry then over the line.
