ONE of Glasgow's top Scottish restaurants wants to open up on the city's South Side.

Cafe Source has applied for planning permission to make alterations to a listed building in Shawlands.

They have taken over the lease of the property on Nithsdale Road and they are proposing a refurbishment and fit-out to operate as a new cafe/bar/restaurant.

In a planning statement, the restaurant, which first opened 16 years ago in Glasgow, said: "Café Source are an experienced purveyor of food and drink in refined and relaxed setting, having opened their first establishment in the basement of the category A-listed St Andrews Parish Church in Glasgow 16 years ago.

"More recently, Cafe Source have been operating the ‘Cafe Source Too’ venue at Hughenden in Glasgow’s West End.

"Both establishments aim to showcase Scotland’s finest ingredients, from the best Scottish suppliers. This ethos will be ingrained in their new venture at 72 Nithsdale Road."

The property which has been taken over was first converted to use as a restaurant in 2009. This eatery was called Cookie and previously the building was used as a motor engineering workshop.

The building has also been home to restaurants Kowloon and Salisbury.

A decision is expected on the plans in June.
