GLASGOW is set for a taste of the London food scene as pop-up restaurant Ka Pao is set to take up residency at SWG3’s new bar and restaurant.

The Acid Bar - unveiled just last month - will host the Thai eatery for an initial four-week period, offering food lovers the opportunity to enjoy Southeast Asian-inspired cuisine in the hip Finnieston events hub.

SWG3’s founder and director, Andrew Fleming-Brown - known more commonly as ‘Mutley’ - described how residencies are a popular concept in London, but haven’t really been developed here in Glasgow.

Mutley said: “People are always looking for new dining experiences, and Scotland's street food scene has never been stronger so, hopefully, this is something new and exciting for foodies to get their teeth into.”

Ka Pao takes its guidance from the cooking of Southeast Asia.

While the dishes on offer reflect some traditional cookery techniques from the region, others fuse more modern methods and influences.

Some of the dishes from the specially-created sharing menu include Coley cakes and Thai basil, White crab and kalamansi lettuce wrapper and lamb neck in green peppercorn and lemongrass.

Ka Pao previously held pop-up events at Café Strange Brew, Yardworks Festival and SWG3’s outdoor gigs in the Galvanizers Yard.

Head chef Sandy Browning, who recently returned from working at the Michelin-starred Nahm in Bangkok, said: “SWG3 is a real incubator for creativity in Glasgow, so we’re very excited to be joining the community down here and to call the venue home for the next few weeks.”

Similar to SWG3’s rotating exhibition programme, the Acid Bar will welcome different guest restaurants and street food vendors throughout the year.

The programme, which will run indefinitely, is designed to showcase the very best of Scotland’s food scene.
