A GLASGOW bodybuilder will star in a new documentary which will follow journey to the world championships in America this summer.

Stuart MacDonald, 31, has allowed BBC film crews into his life as he prepares for the big bodybuilding event which takes place in Las Vegas this August.

He said: “The BBC will be following me around for six months. I have done around two months of filming so far and the documentary will show the struggle and how difficult it is to do what I do.

“The filming has been good but it can be intrusive. It is, however, great for people to see what bodybuilding actually entails.”

He added: “I decided to take part in the documentary because it is one of those things you can look back on when you are older.”

The personal trainer is well known in fitness circles as Stu Mac with over 100,000 followers on social media. His path to top of the fitness world has, however, been unconventional because Stuart originally studied maths at Strathclyde University.

He moved from the Isle of Lewis to the city when he was 19, and during his time at university, he even reached the final phase of the prestigious Mensa tests. But he decided to turn down the chance to be inducted into the high IQ society.

His career in fitness kicked off at Virgin Active after he graduated and from there he has gone on to become a personal trainer.

He now works at Extreme Gym in the city’s South Street and balances his job with training four times a week for bodybuilding.

He said: “I love being being a personal trainer. I love changing people’s lives - it is great.”

He added: “I have the same clients so they are all invested in this journey as well.”

The unnamed documentary is expected to be shown later this year.

Stu Mac is also an ambassador for leading sports nutrition brand USN who have just launched their brand new Blue Lab Whey protein. To find out more visit www.usn.co.uk.
